Daphne Bazopoulou
Daphne has been at UoC as a student (B.S. M.Sc. & joint Ph.D. at IMBB, FORTH) and since 2021 as a faculty member. In between the two, she spent 11 years at the University of Michigan (USA) where she embarked on an interdisciplinary journey of exploring organismal aging and mechanisms that dictate it and co-founding a spin-off. Currently, she is interested in studies that integrate engineering, genetic, optogenetic tools and -omics to understand redox signaling in health, aging and disease. When in lab, Daphne reminds everyone that bad days only last 24 hours.

Agapi Kavvadia
Agapi is currently a Research Assistant after completing her Master’s thesis in the lab. She is working on understanding the host-microbe redox interplay and its role in aging and neurodegeneration. When she is not performing experiments, she loves performing on stages, travelling around the world with her little backpack and spending time with her loved ones.

Niki Astropekaki
Niki completed her Master’s Thesis in the lab and is now a PhD candidate. She is currently working on redox signaling in host-microbe interactions. In her spare time, she enjoys working out.

Kyriakos Mavridis
Kyriakos earned his B.S and M.Sc. from the University of Crete and joined the Bazopoulou group as a Ph.D. candidate in 2025. Passionate about stress adaptation, protein turnover and host-microbe interactions, his research explored how mild early-life interventions can drive significant differences in aging. Outside of the lab, he leads a community group and enjoys hiking.

Christina Karagianni
Christina joined the Bazopoulou lab in 2021, originally for her Bachelor’s thesis. Now deep into her master’s research, she’s trying to figure out how reactive oxygen species (ROS) and calorie restriction impact lifespan and transgenerational inheritance. When she’s not stressing out C. elegans, you’ll probably find her getting lost in music festivals, crushing board game opponents, or planning her next travel adventure — preferably somewhere with questionable Wi-Fi.

Orestis Kontogiannis
Orestis is an undergraduate student, conducting his research thesis as part of his Bachelor’s degree. He studies the effects of oxidation in the host-microbiome interactions in an C. elegans Alzheimer’s model. When he is not hitting the gym, he enjoys cooking food from around the world. If you can’t find him in either place, look out for him beside the piano or listening to music.

Kyriaki Chouli
Kyriaki is an undergraduate student conducting her Bachelor’s thesis. She is interested in the mechanisms of memory and learning in C. elegans and especially how glial cells regulate sensory plasticity and behavioral learning through non-neuronal mechanisms. In her spare time, enjoys diving into new adventures—whether it’s trying out a quirky hobby or taking on something totally unexpected. But if there’s one place you bet on finding her, it’s the gym.
